Appia Announces Record Quarter, Surpasses 1 Million Downloads a Day
App marketplace sees major spike in downloads, totaling more than 100 million for the past four months
DURHAM, N.C. – August 18, 2011 – Appia, the largest open app marketplace in the world, today reported record growth in Q2 2011 and the passing of several major milestones. During the second quarter, the Appia-powered application marketplace crossed the 1 million downloads per day threshold and reached over 40 million downloads in July. In the 38 months since launching, the Appia marketplace has delivered 200 million cumulative downloads, with over 100 million downloads generated in the last four months alone. Appia’s recently launched pay-per-download marketplace also gained significant momentum during the quarter, delivering over 2.5 million sponsored app downloads for 30 partners including Amazon, Priceline and Cupid.com.
“With the rate of downloads on Appia’s open app marketplace now standing at more than 40 million per month, Appia has quickly emerged as one of the industry’s largest app stores,” said Jud Bowman, CEO of Appia. “Our ability to drive revenue and significant downloads for our community of 32,000 developer partners is unparalleled in the industry.”
The Appia Marketplace boasts 140,000 applications from more than 32,000 developers across every major operating system, including Android, iOS, BlackBerry, Java, Windows and Symbian, with thousands of Android apps being added every month. During July, Appia saw downloads from over 200 countries and 3,500 different handsets, giving Appia’s 32,000 developers a tremendous opportunity to connect with a global audience of over 200 million mobile subscribers. Developers can find out more and join the Appia Marketplace by visiting dev.appia.com.
“The native app store landscape has become increasingly crowded, and mobile subscribers are finding better discoverability in the more tailored catalogs of alternative app marketplaces,” Bowman continued. “We are excited by our recent growth and look forward to the continued expansion of our services that allow developers to successfully market and promote their apps through our global channel partners.”
Along with recent milestones, Appia is also celebrating the success of its pay-per-download (PPD) marketplace, which allows developers and publishers to pay as little as $0.10 per download to promote their apps within Appia-powered stores, with targeting available by platform and country. Since the launch of the PPD platform in April, Appia has run sponsored app campaigns for more than 30 developers, including Priceline, Flirtomatic, textPlus and Amazon, resulting in over 2.5 million sponsored app downloads in less than three months.
